On July 3rd Sam finally received his new wheelchair. It came with good news and bad news. The good news is that it is functional and does not act like the old chair: “like it’s possessed by demons,”according to Sam. The bad news is that although they safely delivered the chair, they somehow forgot to bring all of the other parts with it i.e. armrests, seatbelt, cushion, wheel guards, extra batteries. On the bright side, Sam’s chair will keep getting better and better—just like Sam.
The other exciting news that we received on the 3rd is that Sam is eligible to do regenerative bone marrow stem cell therapy. This will take place in St. Louis, Missouri, and Sam will receive the first treatment in August. For those of us who aren’t scientists, this means that they will be harvesting adult stem cells from Sam’s hip bones and injecting the cells into the injured area of Sam’s spinal cord. We hope that these adult stem cells will seek out the damaged nerve cells and replace them. While there are certainly no guarantees, we remain very hopeful and optimistic that this therapy will greatly assist Sam in his recovery of motor function (i.e. moving his fingers) and sensation. We’re also looking forward to our first vacation together as a family since both Benjamin’s birth and Sam’s accident.
To end a very eventful day, we attended a Real Salt Lake soccer game at the Rice Eccles Stadium. After the game, which ended sadly in a tied zero and fist fights, we watched an awesome fireworks show in the stadium. Whew—what an eventful day!

July 13th For the first time ever, in his whole life, Benjamin finally rolled from his back to his tummy. Though Sam is a little bit jealous of his progress, he’s very proud of his son.

I just wanted to celebrate the change in US policy regarding Stem Cell research. I know it doesn't change things in the short term, but hopefully it will open doors in the future. Keep the faith and keep pushing.

Had been thinking about Lindsey's new vibram fivefingers ever since she posted about them on this blog. But alas, once I saw them and read about them, I just couldn't stop thinking about them! I had to try them for myself. Last week I went to Blue five fingers Ridge Mountain Sports in Charlottesville, VA and tried on a pair of fivefingers kso. I tried both the Classics and the Sprints, but I liked the arch and heel support in the Sprints much vibram shoes better. Like my sister, I impulsively purchased a pair on the vibram five finger spot. Obviously I had to try them out right vibram finger away, so I mixed a little bit of walking and vibram five fingers running in since I had read many reviews explaining you need to vibram five fingers shoes gradually adjust your muscles to barefoot running.Running in these five fingers shoe is amazing. I actually am not a running fan, but these shoes make it feel more vibram five fingers fluid, light, and fun! After running/walking in them for the first two vibram kso days, I took a break to let my muscles vibram classic recuperate. This past weekend I broke them back out for some hiking and wouldn't you know, I fell even more in love with them. Although vibram flow walking over gravel in my Vibrams was a little vibram sprint uncomfortable, the rest of the hike was extremely fun and vibram fivefingers kso enjoyable. I am wanting to work out in my vibram 5fingers every day!Most of the vibram shoes sale, the fact that it is indeed more harm than good. The problem is that these shoes in order to “protect” in such a way that they should not be his leg. After the over-built five finger shoes muscles, tendons and ligaments of the lower limb atrophy conclusions. This is because your five fingers shoe do the work, your legs and feet should do.
