This week Sam moved out of the Surgical ICU and into the Neurological Care Unit. He now has feeling down to his wrists in both arms. His breathing has also improved. He's still on oxygen, but not having to use a ventilator. Since the ventilator is out, Sam is able to eat (although he's not too thrilled about the hospital's food). On Tuesday, February 19th Sam said, "Ashley, I'm not going to be a cripple. I'm going to walk again."

Please accept our very best wishes for continued progress in your recovery. We have viewed your website and story. The pictures of your happy times not only inspire us, but we hope they remind you of the good times of the past and that they assure you that there will be joyful times ahead. Progress is the key. These are the times that your faith will be tested and that you will be stretched in ways that may sometimes seem unfair. You are too young to have to confront such a trial, but you will be blessed and this beautiful baby you have welcomed from your heavenly Father will be a big part of what sees you through. We haven't ever met, but we love you. Just make a little progress each day--the Lord will take care of the rest.
All the best,
Bob and Ja Neal Freeman
(Bob is a religion professor at BYU)
P.S. Sometime when the timing is right, we suggest you might enjoy viewing the video--"Tyler, A Real Hero" Let me know if you need help finding it--it is a number of years ago that it was created. Very inspiring.
